Star Wars Saturday

There is a fabulous blog in the Austin area called Free Fun in Austin. Every day there is a list of free things to do with your kiddos in the area. The blog is truly amazing and lists every little thing that comes up.

When I checked the blog this week I saw that a toy store in Bee Cave was having a Star Wars party on Saturday, complete with storm troopers and Darth Vadar! I knew that we just had to go, so we packed up and drove 45 minutes to check it out.

After grabbing a rather pricey lunch (this is a ritzier part of the Austin area), we headed over. It's a very nice toy store so the boys were fully engaged in checking everything out, especially since we didn't tell them why we were there. Then a jawa walked out. I wish I would have gotten a picture of Grant's face. The jawa was followed by a storm trooper. I have to admit that even I was a bit intimidated by this guy - he was REALLY tall.

At this point we hopped in line (we hadn't noticed that one was forming during our 20ish minutes in the store - DOH!). The headliner was Darth Vadar.

Beckett definitely was not sure about the whole thing. Grant was a bit hesitant, but went up to each of the characters to get pictures and high 5s. Beckett did not want to move from the line...in fact said he was done and wanted to leave. When we finally got to the front of the line he would not go ANYWHERE near Vadar. Grant went up and got pics and a said a few things...Beckett was a no go. As we were leaving, I was holding Beckett's hand and kind of steered him towards Vadar. Beck finally gave a high 5. That's why his pic with Vadar is not great. We were technically done with our turn and trying to get a quick picture with him. Roger has the pictures with Darth Vadar on his camera so I will post them as soon as we get them off his phone.

When we got home we watched Empire Strikes Back for the first time. It's so funny how this movie affects kids differently. I remember being highly upset about Han in the carbon-freeze. Josh was traumatized for months after learning that Darth Vadar is Luke's father. With all the books about the movie, Grant and Beckett already knew these things. Grant was most upset about Luke losing his hand in the light saber battle. Beckett was most upset about some of the new footage - the snow monster eating the ton-ton. I admit the ton-ton scene is a bit graphic with blood and such. Still funny to me though. Return of the Jedi - here we come. :-)
