Bluebonnets!

Spring has arrived in central Texas and that means the bluebonnets are out! I always thought they were taller...but no, these pretty flowers are pretty short and they grow all over the sides of the road. If you are lucky, you will find a field filled with them. But mostly you have to pull off, park, and hope for the best. :-) It's so funny to see so many mini-vans and trucks with hazard lights on and their kids sitting on the side of the road. But hey, it's a Texas tradition!

So when we got home from school today (Roger home sick), we all jumped in the car and went searching for the best spot.

To add to our Texas theme, the kids wanted to wear cowboy hats and boots...so sure, why not. Beckett is really getting into Western week at school. :-)

Fun Day!

Today was an absolutely beautiful day, so the kids and I (Roger stayed home in bed fighting off whatever he has - cough, congestion...I blame the tree pollen and mold!) and headed to the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco. Such a great zoo!

 The greatest feature of the zoo was that most of the animals were behind glass so you were able to get up close with them. This is a little spider monkey that came to check us out.

 My favorite part of the zoo. This orangutan was amazing! He was fully interacting the the crowd and I was shocked at how BIG he is.

Freaky Friday

A couple of months ago, some friends began the greatest tradition. Every Friday, the boys and I go to our friends' house - a beautiful location on a great cul-de-sac. We bring all sorts of wheeled apparatus - bikes, scooters, Razor 360s, skateboards. The parents sit back (some adult beverages may or may not be served) and let the kids play. Last week, after being innundated with whining, all the moms decided that we need a buffer between us and the kids. So this week, my friend Katy set up a kid free zone - kids were not allowed to cross the caution tape. :-) It's such a great way to end our week.

Tonight was also Family Flick night at the elementary school. So we all brought frozen pizzas and had dinner on their drive and then we all headed to the school. With the movie not beginning until 8 I knew that our boys were not going to make it. But we went for the glowsticks and ice cream. :-) Here are a few pictures.

 Yes, those are cowboy boots on Beckett's feet. It's Western week at Beck's school next week so we are borrowing these from a friend. Beckett insisted on wearing them to the school. :-)

Quest

About a month ago we Grant was tested and admitted to the gifted and talented program at his school. We are so very proud of him. His test results placed him in the top 10% of the Kindergarteners. There was also a creativity piece to the test - the LEGO Star Wars book that I posted earlier.

The first project for his class was a bug unit. Over Spring Break he came home with 4 facts that he had to illustrate and then learn. He brought the illustrations back to school and made up a posterboard. Then this week he did a presentation to his Kinder class. I am proud to say that he was the only one in his class that talked loud enough and enunciated his words. He also did not hide in his board. He at least tried to face the class. Here is a video of his presentation.

The next day he participated in the Quest Fair. All Kinder - 2nd Quest students were in the cafeteria. The entire school came through to see the posterboards. There was a scavenger hunt and the kids were encouraged to ask questions. Grant loved it.

I was blown away by the 1st and 2nd grade posters. I really thought they were 5th grade posters when i saw them in the classroom. These are the 1st grade posters - Ocean animals was their subject

St Patrick's Day

On St. Patrick's Day the boys had a dentist appointment. I tell ya, dentist offices are not what they used to be. Maybe it's because I grew up going to the Air Force dentist, but this was our first visit to this pediatric office. There were iPads in the lobby for the boys to play with. Despicable Me was playing on a big screen TV. There was a TV in their room. They each had their own room for the cleaning. They received a coin when we left and were able to cash it in at a vending machine filled with small toys. Oh, and their choices for toothpaste! Chocolate chip? Cupcake? Nuts.

Anyway, took a quick picture while we were waiting for the dentist.

Throwback Thursday

While visiting Macie and Cap, there was a conversation about how Beckett never really seemed to be a baby. This got me thinking about it and how far behind I am on the books I do for the kids. So today, I sat down and put some together online...all ready to be ordered. Then on Facebook, I have noticed lots of posts from friends referring to Throwback Thursday. So I thought, why not post some of the really great pictures I have found today. These are all of the boys together - from the book I am doing on brothers.

As Grant told me today - "Mom, the years seem to go so fast sometimes!"
