Busy Week

We have had a very busy week. A couple of days at the pool earlier this week were followed by another Touch A Truck and then a great play at the Children's Museum.

 Well, this was from last week. Beckett had a rough head week. First was a run-in with one of the corners in the kitchen. The deep bruise on his right cheek spread into his right eye. He had a nice shiner for the week. Then he was playing outside with Grant and, unfortunately, Grant made a bad decision - he threw a rock at Beckett and it hit him on the right side of the forehead. So heading out with Beckett last week was full of interesting looks - especially when I am dragging him out of Target kicking and screaming. :-)

These pictures are from today at the Children's Museum. We really had a great day. The kids LOVED the play. It was based on the children's book "How I Became A Pirate." It's one of our favorite books and I am happy to say that the troupe did a really good job.

 I tried to get a picture of Grant with one of the pirates, but there were a lot of people pushing to the front, I was holding Beckett and a heavy backpack and trying to take the picture with one hand. Whew. Just didn't happen. :-(

Another First!

Last week a friend of mine from Alaska, Miss Jen Faris, came to visit for a couple of days. For one of our outings with the kids, we took them to the Monon Center.

The Monon Center is a "waterpark" about 20 minutes from here. There are several pools with a lazy river, some BIG waterslides, climbing apparatus and diving boards.

We knew going in that Grant was going to be too small for the slides (have to be 48" and he's 44"). He still insisted on being measured and was incredibly disappointed when he was several inches short of the mark. As we were walking away, I noticed a kiddo about Beckett's age getting ready to jump off the diving board. The lifeguard blew his whistle, so I figured that was the end of it. But no, he just had to take off his life jacket. So I asked the lifeguard and no, there was no height requirement for the diving board.

I looked at a very wide eyed Grant and asked if he wanted to try. He didn't even give it a second thought and went to stand in line. I was really nervous for him. At the Y pool, he can touch the bottom of the pool at the end of the slide. This pool was 12 feet deep...no way to touch. As you will see, no problem. I asked him later if he was nervous the first time he went off. He responded with, "no. I was worried because I didn't know what jump I was going to do." :-)

Update on Beckett - he's really hit the 3s with a vengeance. I go from wanting to cuddle him to wanting to drop him off at the corner. He goes from giving me hugs and telling me he loves me to yelling NO and throwing books at me. Lovely!

Seeing Grant jump off the diving board and go off the slides has really pushed Beckett to swim more. We are all hoping that by next summer he will be shooting into the water right along side Grant.

Grant has another camp this week. This time he learning all about animals and it's held in a nature center instead of a park. He's going with his good friend Isaac. Should be a good time. :-)

Exciting News!

 Grant blew us all out of the water this week by passing the swimming test at our pool.

In order to go down the water slides at our pool, have to pass a swimming test for the lifeguards. The test involves treading water for 10 seconds and then swimming from one rope to another. We have watched the older kids take the test many many times and up until this week Grant has not expressed an interest in taking the test. This week was completely different. He saw what was required and decided to do it. He's never treaded water before, but once I told him how to do it, done. And he has been practicing his swimming all summer, but never this far or in water over his head. Again, once we showed him how far he needed to go...done. We are all so proud of him...and as you will see, he's pretty proud of himself!

YEA GRANT!

SURPRISE!

For my birthday, my parents surprised me and the kids by driving up for a week long visit. What a great present! Unfortunately, they arrived during our record breaking heat....makes for quick outings!

During their visit, we hit the pool, the children's museum and the Saturday Market. Unfortunately, before I made it to the front of the line, our favorite stand at the market ran out of sweet corn. BOO!
