Swimming, Boating, and Diving - Oh My!

We just spent a great week at Macie and Cap's house. Lots of new adventurees and some favorites as well. :-)

Of course we made a return trip to Rockport pool. The boys just love the diving board. Both of them jumped right up and tried all sorts of jumps....even a few dives.

This year I challenged Beckett to also swim the width of the pool. Not only did he make it once, but he turned around and did it again. So proud of him. He definitely needs someone to show him some technique though. As Macie said, he does the Beckett crawl and it definitely makes me nervous at times.

Macie and Cap have some of the nicest neighbors. One of them let us use their code at the country club pool. It was the perfect 30 minute, let's burn off your energy before dinner. Their favorite thing to do? Jump in the 9 foot section...of course! :-)

4th of July

We decided to make shirts for the 4th of July, so off to WalMart we went. Grant and I got to work one afternoon to design and make the shirts.

 We decided to splatter paint the fronts of the boys shirts. Love Grant's face when he sees what it's going to look like. :-)

 And now Beckett. I love the difference between their approaches. Grant was very thoughtful and precise...not wanting too much paint. Beckett....well the more the better. :-)

Boat Parade

Rockport had a boat parade for the 4th of July. Beckett and Cap decorated the boat with flags and banners. They did a great job. :-)

 Beckett got incredibly hot during the parade. So he stripped down to his boxers. :-)

 I promised the kids that we would color their hair for the 4th of July. Well, colored hairspray cannot be found ANYWHERE in Rockport. So I thought, let's try Kool-Aid! Here is Grant, trying valliantly, to get his hair to be blue for the night. Unfortunately it washed out. :-(  His hair was slightly green.

From the moment we arrived at the club, Grant and Beckett wanted to help. We got there a little early, so they each helped set out chairs around the tables. After we finished dinner, Beckett amazed me when he said, "I am going to see if I can clear anyone's trash." So off he went, walking up to each of the tables, asking if they were finished and if he could clear their trash. So proud. :-)

 Grant also helped sell tickets. He and Macie sat at this table for an hour. He wanted to figure it all out - how much each family owed, what their change would be. He just loves math.

Sailing a SunFish

A friend of Cap's, Mr. Herman, offered to show the kids how to sail a SunFish boat. Grant was over the moon with excitement. Mr. Herman was wonderful with the boys and took each of them out a couple of times. A wonderful experience that they can't wait to repeat next time we go down. :-)

Dinner at Red Fish Willies

We went to one of Macie and Cap's favorite restaurants for dinner. There was going to be a long wait since it was 4th of July weekend, but we didn't mind with these WikiSticks - very fun idea...basically yarn covered with some kind of wax that allows it to stick together. :-)

Finally...the beach!

We finally made it to beach right before we left. With the crowds and our crazy week we only made it once. The boys had a great time...as usual. 

Roger stayed home since he had to work. As a surprise for the boys, he worked hard on getting one of the fort towers at least climbable. It's a long slow process, but the boys are super excited to have this part done. Next will be the bridge between the towers and the railing on the other tower. We also plan to put a roof on each one. A rock wall, fireman pole, and rope ladder are all under consideration. :-)
